Community Safety and Support

At Gregory Patrick for Sheriff, our mission is to enhance public safety and community trust. We are dedicated to serving the community with integrity and transparency.

For over forty years, Captain Gregory Patrick has dedicated his life to protecting and serving others. His very name meaning watchful, vigilant, noble protector, seems to have been a prophecy of his purpose. From the rural roads of Indiana to the bustling corridors of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Gregory’s career has been defined by integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Gregory began his law enforcement journey in 1985 with the Indiana State Police. Assigned to the Lowell District, he quickly became known as the officer who could handle it all—whether rescuing a stranded motorist, investigating serious crimes, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need. His early years laid the foundation for a career built on compassion and excellence. Later transferring to the Indianapolis District, Gregory continued to grow professionally, becoming a member of the Tactical Infantry Platoon, a Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.) instructor, and one of the top ten officers for DUI arrests statewide.
When he relocated to Florida, Gregory joined the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, where he quickly rose to leadership. Within months, he was chosen to supervise the Beach Patrol, and soon after, he became the county’s very first School Resource Officer. His genuine concern for youth and community safety made a lasting impression. As Deputy Director of Youth Services, and a member of the Special Response Team (S.W.A.T.), Gregory’s balanced approach of firmness and empathy earned the respect of his peers and the public alike. His impact was recognized when the Okaloosa County School District honored him as Non-Instructional Employee of the Year.
After his father’s passing, Gregory returned home to Indianapolis to support his family, joining the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 2005. Over the years, his steady leadership and dedication carried him through nearly every aspect of the department—from the Jail Division to the Judicial Enforcement Division, where he served as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, and later, Captain. Each promotion reflected not only his skill but also the trust he earned from his colleagues. Gregory’s innovation led to updated policies and the digitization of court forms—changes that continue to improve efficiency and safety within the system.
Beyond the badge, Gregory’s influence extends deep into the community. As a small business owner, he has provided employment to fellow law enforcement officers for nearly two decades, helping one of his longest-serving team members put two daughters through college. His commitment to service also includes time as an ordained deacon, a youth football coach, a YMCA board member, and chair of the Juvenile Justice Council. His community impact was recognized with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charlie Hill Community Service Award.
A proud product of Indianapolis Public Schools, Gregory went on to earn his EQAssociate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society for academic excellence. Yet, even with all his accomplishments, Gregory remains humble…grounded by faith, family, and purpose.
Today, Captain Patrick serves as Captain of the ADC Jail Command, responsible for the safety and well-being of deputies, staff, and inmates. His leadership style is marked by compassion and accountability, rooted in his belief that everyone deserves respect and the opportunity for redemption.
At home in Center Township, Gregory and his wife Lisa find joy in family and faith. Together, they’ve raised two children who now serve in the medical field—a reflection of the same spirit of service that has guided his life.
Captain Gregory Patrick’s journey is one of perseverance, purpose, and profound impact. His story is not only about the years he has worn the uniform—but about the countless lives he has touched along the way.
